Doctocracy · Figure 1
Every square below holds one million dots. Each highlighted dot is one outcome. Choose a risk to see how much of the square it actually fills.
1,000 × 1,000 dots = 1,000,000

per million dosesAnaphylaxis after a vaccine dose.
Vaccine Safety Datalink: 33 confirmed cases in 25,173,965 doses.
A note on the denominators. These figures do not share one. Anaphylaxis is counted per vaccine dose given. Measles death is counted per child infected. Car crashes and lightning are lifetime odds for one person. They cannot be subtracted from one another, and this figure is not a calculation — it is a sense of scale, which is the thing the human mind is worst at holding. The point is the distance between the squares, not arithmetic between them.
